UI Buttons Look

Guys,

Thanks for setting this software up for HTML 5 and making the UI touch friendly.

I wonder if the line action buttons, currently surrounded with [square brackets] shouldn't also adopt the new touch friendly look and feel used else where in the site?

I understand approach taken and I'm still in two minds about this, but think it's worth discussing. Have a look at http://www.syncfusion.com/downloads/metrostudio, which contains a whole stack of great (free) UI button images.

About making it touch friendly… that wasn’t really our intention so whatever appears to be touch friendly is a sheer coincidence. We used to have icons instead of those [Edit] and [Delete] buttons but it just didn’t feel right and we replaced them… it was to do with aesthetics rather than touch friendliness. That said, I wouldn’t rule out us supporting touch friendly devices at some point but it just won’t be at version 1. It’ll be better to go through the entire site in the future and make all aspects touch friendly rather than fix pieces here and there in the present.

I agree that the [square brackets] seem a good fit, but they may need to have more margin space to ensure my fat fingers don't click the wrong action, when managing the CI Server from a Win8 tablet (as developers will be doing).  Happy to wait till later in the process, as I see the screen are evolving between builds.

Vince, it looks like the top row menu is not IE10 friendly (Windows 8-style UI), as you have to revert the browser to IE 9 document mode to get the first pages up and running.

Once your into some of the area's you can switch back to IE10 mode, but I would say that has something to do with the j query menu implementation (DNN also runs into this issue as well!). But then the final Win8/IE10 isn't officially released to the public yet.

Was that on a tablet or on a desktop with Windows 8/IE 10? I’m navigating the site on a VM running Windows 8/IE 10 and it seems to be working without any problems. (We could be looking at different pages though)

I was working on a Samsung Slate 7 with Windows 8 Pro installed. So I’ve got troubles with touch enabled menu.
Finger and pen fail to activate the menu. I think this is a HTML CSS JQuery Touch event issue. Your going to need a WIndows 8 touch device to debug this. I’ve got this issue in a range of my web applications, which I’m going to assume with annoy people no end. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11180497/how-to-handle-ie10-touch-events

We’d love to get it working but unfortunately we don’t have a touch enabled Windows 8 device. We do accept donations though.

Hey, I had to hassle Microsoft Australia to get the Slate included in the MSDN subscriptions, just so we had access to the same touch devices the USA developers/subscribers had. See Microway Australia for the deal.

Hopefully Microsoft will think it wise to hand out Surfaces to all devs with MSDN subscriptions. It will make them money both ways.

Jamie.

Hmm… the microway deal expired on June 30. Our Msdn renewal is due next month… I just took aa look at our renewal price, twice the price just because we’re in Australia… M$ are price gouging! this is not new though, I found the same issue last year and rang and abused them, but they wouldn’t budge on price.

I you email me directly, I’ll give you the details of the local MS guy I dealt with.
