Hi,
We recently migrated from TFS 2008 to TFS 2010. We are currently using Final Builder 6. Is it possible for us to use Final Builder 6 Server with TFS 2010? Or do we need to upgrade to Final Builder 7 Server?
We are not using the continuous integration feature of final builder. We are using TFS 2010 to Create/delete workspaces, check-in/check-out files, applying labels, etc.
Please advice.
Thanks.
Hi JD,
FinalBuilder 6/Server 6 does not have support for TFS 2010, you’ll need to upgrade to FinalBuilder 7 for TFS 2010 support.
Regards,
Paul.
JD,
When we initially started using FinalBuilder, it was right before FB 7 was released. I initially set up all of my FB 6 projects using TFS 2010. Most of the Action Items did work against TFS 2010. There were only 2 actions that I used that did not work at all, Create Work Item and TFS History (which btw, doesn’t work in FB 7 either). So, you should be able to do most everything you need to do using FB 6 and TFS 2010, it just isn’t officially supported.

Just to clarify, the Team Foundation actions in FinalBuilder 6 and 7 should work fine against TFS2005, 2008 and 2010, as should FinalBuilder Server 6 and 7’s TFS trigger. If you find a case where this isn’t true, please let us know.
FinalBuilder 7 brings support for running FinalBuilder from TFS2010, which isn’t possible with FinalBuilder 6. Of course there are a lot of other good reasons to upgrade to FinalBuilder 7, but based on what you’ve said you should be able to continue with 6.
Cheers,
Ben
Thank you for your input guys. We changed the default paths for final builder to pick tf.exe from 2010 folder and everything worked fine for our builds.
We were able to use fbp6 until yesterday. But now tfs create workspace creates a workspace with default mapping to $/ -> C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7. This is causing all our builds to break. Please advice.
Hi JD,
What’s changed in your environment? Did you install a new version of FinalBuilder? Of Team Explorer?
Do you have a default working folder set in the FinalBuilder TFS options? (Tools\Options\Team Foundation Source Control)
Cheers,
Ben
Nothing changed. That’s what is surprising. We did not update our final builder. We are still on 6. We only have path to executable set in Team foundation source control. The default working folder is not set.
