Subject: FB 5.5.0.707 - Frequent Crashes

Let me report a frequent problem that I have . . . and see if there is any way to help FB 5.5 become more stable. While I am now running build 707, this also happenned with previous builds such as 627 and 518. The build machine is running Windows XP SP2 with 1GB RAM.

Most of the time, the script to build all of our app runs fine. However, I am getting frequent crashes. Some days, there are no problems, other days it crashes half of the time. This is when running the build script via FBCMD -- the IDE is much worse. See attached screen shots.

When I do get an error message (from Symantec AntiVirus actually), it goes something like this:

    Symantec AntiVirus Notification
    SYMANTEC TAMPER PROTECTION ALERT
    Target: C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\VPTray.exe
    Event Info: Terminate Process
    Action Taken: Logged
    Actor Process: C:\Program Files\FinalBuilder 5\FBCMD.exe (PID 208)

Should I disable the AntiVirus software?

As far as I can see, it doesn't crash at the same spots in the build script. Most of the time it seems to be during one of these actions "VSS Get Latest Version", "VSS Share File(s)", "Run DOS Command" (to pin VSS files). These are also the actions that take the longest to execute in the build script due to the number of files acted on.

Hi Daniel

This doesn’t look like crashing to me, more some issue between norton antivirus and FinalBuilder. If you disable Antivirus does this still happen?

I will disable some or all of the Symantec AV’s Tamper Protection and see what happens. If that fails, I’ll try disabling the AV. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Vincent,

Still no luck. I disabled Symantec AV (using the app first then disabling the Service to make sure) but FB5.5 still crashes on me – not every time but often enough. The large majority of crashes are when executing a batch file (.CMD file) from FBCMD to interact with VSS. As you can see from the screen shots, it usually happens when Pinning or Unpinning files in VSS via the CMD file.

Any ideas?
