I had a project with about 30 variables that were scattered between four or five different groups. I selected all of the variables and the “Move To Project” button was still enabled so I clicked it. I got an unhandled exception, but unfortunately my FB6 environment does not have email configured and there was no way to save the bug report.
I closed FB6 and reopened the project. To my delight, the variables were still in the User tab. This time I multi-selected all variables in a single group, and then clicked “Move To Project”. I did this for each group of variables. No errors occurred and all variables appeared in the “Project” tab.
I saved the project and exited FB. The whole point was to migrate the project to a different user profile, so I logged out and logged back in as the other user. I opened the project in FB6, but to my horror all variables were gone. I exited and logged out/in as first user, reopened the project, and the variables are still gone. Jon
Hi Jon
This doesn’t sound good, I will try to reproduce this here. Did you save the project file after moving the variables? If not then that might account for the variables being lost.
After the second attempt, when it appeared the variables were moved successfully, I’m 99% sure that I saved the project. If I didn’t, then not only did I forget, but FB didn’t prompt me when I exited the app. If I had forgotten but was prompted, I definitely would have saved.
I’ve got several of those “other things getting my attention” too. Within a few days I’ll try to recreate with a test project.
Hi Jon
Thanks for the info, I was able to reproduce here… the project doesn’t get marked as modified when moving the variables… so it wouldn’t have prompted you to save. If you do save the project the variables are there. I will fix this right now.
