IE7 slows down FB repainting?

Has anyone else had this experience? I just installed IE7 and now FB seems to run slower. In particular, resizing the bottom and left panes is now really sluggish. I could be imagining things, but thought I’d check…

Hi Steve,

I hadn’t installed IE 7 when I saw your post - so I did so, rebooted, and had a look. You may actually be right that there is slightly more flickering on resize, but we’re talking about a very small change (although my dev box is pretty high spec) and I may be imagining it as well. I uninstalled IE 7 and it still seems the same, but this may be because IE 7 has installed some new Windows updates which are not backed out when you uninstall it.

Either way, there isn’t much we can do about it for now. Flickering on resize is something we’d like to fix in general, but for now it’s a fairly low priority (we have done some work on speeding up redraw during builds, or at other times when performance is important.)

Regards,

Angus

And if the slowdown you’re seeing is because of updated version of common controls that IE7 has installed into Windows itself, then all apps will also experience this too… (if you’re right, the difference must be quite small because I don’t see any difference what-so-ever…)

And one other thing… FinalBuilder does have quite a few places where there is HTML rendered content, but none of them are using the Internet Explorer ActiveX control (they’re using a 3rd party html rendering engine).

Thanks for the responses, I understand about the low priority. It’s not a huge problem, as you don’t tend to resize panes much. This machine is a P4 2.4 ghz fwiw.
