Getting Started with InstallAware

InstallAware (IA) Developer 9 Build Moya.sp1.070409 and FinalBuilder (FP) Professional 6.3.0.1506 on Vista Ultimate SP2 32-bit.

I am having trouble getting started with Automation of IA in FB.  I have an IA project that works fine in FB with static paths to the IA project and its $TARGETDIR$ files.  But I have had nothing but errors when building paths using FB variables.

IA's help file topic "Automation Overview" states, "Example projects using the DLL, including headers for the DLL, are located in the Automation\Examples folder inside your InstallAware installation folder."  I can't find this folder on my machine.  I am fairly sure I selected the complete install.

Searching the forum I see people are using IA.  I would appreciate some help getting started.

Thanks.

Hi Mark

Currently IA 9 is not compatible with FinalBuilder, and probably won’t be unless they decide to make changes to it :

Well that is, umm, suboptimal.

Hi Mark,

I've just revisited the IA forums and noticed that the latest build of InstallAware 9 should now be compatible with FinalBuilder (requiring Window Messages has been removed from the console tool). I've also tested the latest build here and it works as expected. Could you give us any more information with regards to the problems you're having, such as error message?

Paul.

The main problem was Automation is not part of InstallAware Developer. Since I don’t want to spend another $1k, and Vista is much nicer about deleting folders as I’m developing the FB scripts than XP was, I’m sticking with my scripts. If I run into problems I know enough now to ask for miabuild.exe help.

Thanks.
