FinalBuilder 4 crashes when DEP is Activated for All Rpograms

Hi,

When DEP is activated for all programs on Vista, FinalBuilder 4 crashes at startup. I'v not been able to find the failing module. Any suggestions.

I saw that build 348 of FinalBuilder 5.x has this issue solved

Regards Alfred

Th FB5 build you mentioned fixed the problem by configuring a compatibility mode for the executable during installation. This is a temporary measure. The real issue is the protection software we use which causes the DEP problem. We have been waiting for the vendor to resolve the problem, they were recently taken over by another company so a solution may eventually be available. For future versions we will be looking at alternative protection products. The work around for now is to add an exception for FinalBuilder in the DEP configuration screen.

Hi,

Sorry I should have mentioned this, this is what I did but didn't help. When I add FinalBuilder4.exe to the DEP exception list it still crashes.

Are there any other modules that need to be added to the exception list?

Regards Alfred

Hi Alfred,

It works for me (4.2.317) once I add it to the exceptions list. FinalBuilder4.exe identifies itself as "FinalBuilder Console" when you add it (mistake in the version information.)

I had to add each of FinalBuilder4.exe, FBCMD.exe and ActionStudio.exe to the exclude list (this means there will be two "FinalBuilder Console" entries in the list.)

If you still can't get this to work, can you let us know what hardware you're running on?

Angus

I suppose we are suffering of this problem in our Builder computer (Win 2003 server on a VMWare Server Virtual Machine) . Both FinalBuilder 3 & 4 are stuck at the splash screen and will not start up. I have switched the DEP back to “for essential programs and services only” mode but it did not change anything.

Or is this something else then?

Hi Jouni,

Thanks for your post. Apologies if this is a silly question, but did you reboot after resetting DEP?

Also, is there a file in the FinalBuilder program directory called “bugreport.txt”? If there is, does it contain any recent information?

Finally, is there anything in the Windows Event Log indicating that DEP had been triggered?

Regards,

Angus

Hi Angus,

Thanks for your questions. Yes I did reboot, but you made me think about something else - and search for the bugreport, so I noticed that the default user no longer has access to Program Files!

The VM was modified so that Program Files is now completely on another partition (to ), mounted to C:\Program Files, and I had to change the security settings for the partition (from Disk Manager) to get FB start up. Although the user had full access to FB directory, and I could modify files on the directory, FB failed to start until the partition settings had been changed. Weird?

BR, Jouni

Hi Jouni,

Glad you got it fixed. I’m guessing that FinalBuilder was probably crashing while trying to write a bug report which said “Program Files directory is read-only.”

We’ll look into it and see if we can fix it.

Angus
