I’m just wondering what the projected release date for Final Builder 6 is?
The reason I ask is that I see that some of the feature requests on this forum are responded to as “on the to-do list”. Are these to-do items scheduled for future builds of FB5, or for the release of FB6?
The reason I ask is that I have a lot of machines here with FB3 and FB4 on them (we have site licenses for FB3Pro and FB4Pro) and I’m wanting to bump them all up with an FB5 Site License but I’m wondering if I should just wait for FB6?
Hi Mike
We haven’t even discussed the release date here, so I wouldn’t wait on it. Make sure you get software assurance with the site license, that way you will get FB6 when it is released (assuming it will be released within 12 months, I can’t promise that ,but I would think it’s a safe bet based on our previous releases). SA is much cheaper than an upgrade.
As for the todo list, we add stuff to it all the time, and it’s constantly being worked on. Mostly its a first in first out thing, however things that require major architectural changes, or typelib/com interop interface changes usually get marked for the next major release. Some things also get bumped up the list depending on wh’s available to do what and how urgent the feature is to our customers. We make good use of branches in Surround SCM (the version control system we use) to allow work on different versions concurrently.
FWIW, we are planning a 5.x update in the next few months, at lot of work has been done since the FB5 release and we still have more stuff slated for that update. We are currently focusing on test cases etc for the finalbuilder core (anything that is not the IDE/Console/Actions) to make QA easier when we do make core changes. Automise 2 has also had a lot of work done on it, some of that stuff will be included in the 5.x update. We are also planning to get a “technology preview” of the server edition out in the next few weeks, Paul has been working on the installer (which we are trying to make as solid as possible, web apps can be challenging to install) and there are a few minor issues (such as licensing!) that we are still working on.

Good to see that the server edition is coming in the next few weeks. We will be happy to test it.
OK, so let me make sure I’m getting this right:
To upgrade our FB3Pro and FB4Pro Site License to FB5Pro would be $1,679
For the 1year SA is 20% of $4,199, which comes to $839.80
So my total would be $2518.80
Is that correct?
Where can I find a list of improvements between FB4 and FB5? I need to write up a purchase justification…
One last question: I made 2 feature requests - To have an option for the log to only include peer and descendant actions, and for Action.InstanceId to be exposed to scripting - both of which were added to the ToDo list. Do you have any time-table of when those features would be included in a stable release?
Thanks,
Mike
Yes, those prices look right. If you want a formal quote please email support.
The list of new features is here:

re: Feature requests
Action.InstanceId has already been implemented and is in the latest FB5 test build:

As far as the logging changes go, that is more involved and will require some time for R&D. We are planning a minor update for FB5 fairly soon and we may have time to squeeze in the logging changes.
