AssemblyInfo Updater and copyright © symbol

If I try to update an AssemblyCopyright attribute to a value with a copyright © symbol then it ends up as a space in the AssemblyInfo.cs file.  I've tried using the text directly as the value, a variable as the value and using the BeforeAction event to set the attribute's value there, but the result is the same so it appears to be saving incorrectly.
