# When saving file leave the encoding alone

When you open a file that's encoded as UTF-8 FB will change that to UTF-16 if you're FB is setup with UTF-16 as the default.&nbsp; this is inconsistent with the compressed vs. uncompressed (that's preserved properly) and it wreaks havoc on diff'ing the files.

&nbsp;Would be very nice if FB honored the file setting rather than forcing in the default encoding.
