# Setting a variable from a stage

I’m using stage actions to call FinalBuilder scripts. &nbsp;I want to read a value from a text \<g class=“gr\_ gr\_274 gr-alert gr\_gramm gr\_run\_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep” id=“274” data-gr-id=“274”\>file,\</g\> and populate a configuration value (or a project or application variable) with the contents of that file.\<br /\>  
Is this possible without calling a FinalBuilder script? &nbsp;eg in &nbsp;the “Set Variable” action, is it possible to put an expression in “New Value” to load the contents of the file for me?

At this stage we do not have any file reading actions within Continua itself. The way your using FinalBuilder is how I would recommend reading the file into a configuration variable.
