Can you "publish" a website in FB like you can in VS (right click on website project and select "Publish Web Site")?

NOTE: This is not a web application. It is a website.

Hi Robb,

Thanks for posting.

When you use the Build VS.NET Solution action, or the MSBuild Project Action, to build a solution with a web site, it will automatically invoke the ASP.NET Precompiler to build the Web Site to an output directory. By default, this directory is called "PrecompiledWeb" and is in the same directory as the solution file. This directory will contain everything you need to deploy the application, including a "bin" directory and any referenced assemblies.

Actually copying or FTPing the web site to its deployed location is a separate operation in FinalBuilder - so you'll want to use the Copy File(s) action or the FTP actions to do so.

If your web site isn't part of a VS.NET Solution, you can use the ASP.NET Precompiler aciton to compile it. I'd recommend using a solution file if possible, though (easier to configure.)

Regards,

Angus

How do you set the precompile output directory?

Hi Robb,

For a solution file, there’s four ways to do this, in decreasing order of convenience:

1) Is to change it in the solution itself, via Visual Studio. If you right-click the web site in Solution Explorer, and then choose “Property Pages”, and then click on the tab marked “MSbuild Options”, there is an output directory setting.

2) Is to use the MSBuild Project action to build the solution. The MSBuild property for the output directory has a strange name, which is Project\_[Project GUID]\_AspNetTargetPath. If you enter the solution path on “MS Build” tab of the action, and then click over to the Properties tab, you should see this property in the list of available properties. You can override this to be any directory you want.

3) Is to manually copy the files from the default PrecompiledWeb directory, using the Copy File(s) action.

4) Is to use the [ASP.NET](http://ASP.NET) Precompile action manually, instead of via Build [VS.NET](http://VS.NET) Solution or MSBuild Project.
