# Error communicating with TFS server from 1.0.0.1647

I'm trying to connect to TFS from version 1.0.0.1647. I get the error message "Error communicating with TFS server, please check details". As far as I can tell the details are correct, and I can browse to the TFS URL from the test server.
Is there anything I can try, or can I get some more details about the error?

Update to the latest beta, we made changes lot the TFS support recently. You will need to edit the repository and select the TFS client version after updating.

Thanks for that - I’ve updated, but it unfortunately has not fixed it for us. I’m running agianst TFS 2008 if that makes a difference at all.

No, that’s made no difference. TeamCity on the same server can connect using the same settings. Any ideas?

The code is swallowing up the details of TFS error messages that we do not recognise and displaying a generic error message instead.
This has been fixed in the latest build 1.0.0.1705. Can you install this and please details of the error message that you get? Also if you could post more information about the values entered for each field on the repository dialog, this may help us to find out what the issue is.

Thanks for that. I’ve installed 1705 and the error I am getting is:
Error communicating with TFS server, please check all fields and try again. Error details: Unable to access Tean Foundation Source Control. It appears that the Visual Studio Team Foundation Client is not loaded on this machine. If you have changed yout Team Explorer installation since installing FinalBuilder Server, you may need to reinstall.
TF Client 2008 was installed on the computer after Continua, and I reinstalled it today too. No change.
My settings are:
TFS: http://:8080/ \<-- I can browse to this.
My AD credentials.
Path: $/project with spaces in the name
The same settings are used in TeamCity on the same server.

I think I may have found the problems… VS seems to have modified the bindings for the client assemblies on a dev’s machine where the 2008 client was not installed. I’ll let you know when we have another build to test.

1707 still gives me the same error:

Just re-read your post above - I’m installing Continua on a server, not a dev machine in case that makes a difference.

Are you able to check if the TFS client assemblies are gac installed? We’ll test this again next week on a clean machine.

Yes, the TFS assemblies are in the GAC on the server. I’ve also updated to the latest version (1.0.0.1773).
