# Build 882 Repository Variables

I'll admit that Continua is blowing my mind at the moment, when I compare it to FB Server and FB in general. While I'm having troubles with HG repository communication/authentication, I thought I would try to use a File watcher to see if I could monitor changes in files on the build server.
So I create a variable for the "FolderToMonitor" with the directory path and try and plug that into the repository path -\> Click Validate -\> gets and error. Are variables not allowed in Repository configurations? I would have thought user/passwords etc might be good candidates for variables.

Ye we don’t support that yet. We haven’t discussed it but I’m sure we can add that functionality at some point.

Yeah, I finally worked out there is a razor blade icon for the fields that do support variable substitution. Just out of interest was is the format of the variable substitution?
The Wiki docs aren't totally clear about that, especially comming from a Final Builder %MyLovelyVariable% background.

Ok, I didn’t get down as far as the important distinction in “Objects & Expressions” where $$ and %% have specific scope differences.
I think that %%/$$ information needs to be at the very top of the article. I guess there are examples on on other wiki pages that got me all discombobulated.

We’ll re-work that article so it’s a bit more clearer, there’s a bit of extra information we want to add as well. Hopefully it will aid you on your journey towards recombobulation.
